Thor Faces A Midlife Crisis In Love & Thunder Teases Taika Waititi
It can be remembered that at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor decided to relegate Asgard-ruling duties to Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who had taken over while he was in a deep depression following Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap. The God of Thunder decided to join the Guardians of the Galaxy in their adventure, but that decision might not have led to any clarity for Thor’s plans post-Thanos. Based on what’s been revealed in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, Thor is still hanging out with his fellow cosmic heroes, but an inciting incident compels him to come home and deal with it. That’s when he reunites with other Asgardian heroes, as well as Mighty Thor.
What’s curious is if by the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor has finally found his true purpose. His heartfelt conversation with Frigga (Rene Russo) in Avengers: Endgame motivated him to embrace his true self. But per Waititi’s comment, it doesn’t seem like the God of Thunder knows what that is — at least when the film starts. Hopefully, by the end of the blockbuster, he finally realizes it. Giving one of the Avengers a midlife crisis is a unique approach for an MCU film, and it will be interesting to see how Waititi handles it with Thor: Love and Thunder.
