This underrated iPhone and iPad feature will blow your mind

Knowing how to use your iPhone used to be something I thought I couldn’t learn more, but the viral TikTok trend proved me wrong. It seems like every iOS user (myself included) these days is impressed with the tricks/hacks you have to try to convince yourself.

Pinch with three fingers to copy and paste an image from iPhone to iPad (or vice versa). But when you see gestures in action, it’s more like picking up an image from one device and putting it on another. It’s safe to say that when I tried the feature on the iPhone 11 and iPad mini 6, I was speechless.

After confirming it worked, I recorded it and posted it to our TikTok account. If you follow Tom’s Guide on TikTok, you’ve probably seen it. If not, you can check it out below:

Witchcraft, I tell you.

Of course, it’s not really magic. This neat trick is part of Apple’s Universal Clipboard feature, which allows Apple devices on the same account to collaborate more directly. Not to be confused with our guide to using Universal Control on Mac and iPad, Universal Clipboard lets you copy something on one device and paste it on another.

Earlier this year, we even wrote an explanation of how to use the Universal Clipboard on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, even though the Universal Clipboard existed long before that. This is definitely one of the most underrated benefits of owning multiple Apple devices.

You can also join TikTok trends as long as your iPad and iPhone are set to allow Handoff. Or maybe it’s a tool that really makes your life easier. I? Can’t say I’ll need it badly, as all my photos are synced across devices thanks to the generous iCloud storage plan. But it turned out to be a great party trick.

Using this feature is really as easy as our TikTok looks.Open For photos on iPhone, hold the screen with three fingers and hold the iPad with three fingers. Or start with an image on the iPad and paste it on the iPhone.

Now that you know this iPhone/iPad feature, you might be interested in another trick to instantly increase the volume of your AirPods. Also check out some of our other guides, including how to get full screen caller ID in iOS 15 and how to transfer data from iPhone to iPhone.

Also, make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 15.4.1 as soon as possible.

Using the feature is truly as simple as our TikTok makes it look. Open a photo on your iPhone, pinch in your screen with three fingers and pinch out on your iPad with three fingers. Or start with an image on your iPad and paste it on your iPhone.
