We love recycled crafts. I’m a huge collector when it comes to the scraps we use in making sessions because I know there’s always a good way to use them.

I’m so excited to share this upcycled flower magazine (by Jacquelyn) because it uses two great materials that open up a window of possibilities: newspaper and bubble wrap. If you can resist the urge to pop bubble wrap, you can use it as a source of art – a brush with the most stunning texture that will delight children and adults alike. If you haven’t tried bubble paper painting, I invite you to try it.

We really love recycled crafts. I’m a total hoarder when it comes to the scrap materials we use in crafting sessions because I know there’s always a great way to use them.

How to make flowers from recycled newspapers

What do you need:
newspaper
bubble wrap
paints
paint brushes
the scissors
glue
cardstock or canvas
optional: cupcake molds, pompoms
Step by step instructions
Get your newspaper and bubble wrap ready. Paint bubble wrap with bright floral colors and press (stamp) it onto the newspaper. Isn’t this the coolest texture ever?
Allow the paint to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Cut out circles. You can use a variety of home designs – mugs, tape…

As you did in the first step, also paint bubble wrap green and dab it on the newspaper.
Cut out leaf shapes and some stems.

Fold the bubble print circles in half, then in half again. These little triangles will give your newspaper flower a bit of volume.

It’s time to make a flowery base. Glue the 4 folded circles onto a circle base, or glue the corners of each folded circle together to create a circle (one above the other or waved inside each other).

If you decided to include the cupcake liners (these embellish the flowers). Flatten them, fold them in half and then fold them in half again. Cut the wide side with scissors.

Unfold the cupcake liner and you will see a beautiful flower shape. Glue it to the bottom or top of the newspaper flower.

Glue the flowers, leaves and stem to the canvas.

You can decorate them even more, with an even smaller cupcake liner shape in the middle. Let your imagination guide you.

Want to decorate even more? Why not use a pom pom and glue it to the center of the flower.
