MacBook Air 2022 and new Mac mini just tipped for WWDC launch

Apple’s WWDC 2022 event is expected to bring major software news, especially around iOS 16, macOS 13, and watchOS 9. But we’ve just heard rumors of a hardware crash party.

The mixed results of Leaker LeaksApplePro said they will “hear about the M2 MacBook Air and M2 Mac mini at WWDC”. We’ve covered the new M2 chip and what it could bring to the Mac, but the gist is that it will reportedly have the same 8 CPU cores as the M1, but two or three additional graphics cores, for a total of 10. …..

Bloomberg recently reported that as many as nine new Macs are being tested using the M2 chip in four different configurations of Apple’s new silicon. These Macs include the new 2022 MacBook Air and 2022 Mac mini. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has already mentioned that we could see a new MacBook Air and another new Mac at WWDC, so that’s definitely going to happen.

The MacBook Air 2022 is undoubtedly the most anticipated new MacBook, as it’s been about two years since the MacBook Air M1 debuted. Despite the excellent execution, the design is really starting to show its age.

The good news is that the new MacBook Air M2 should get more than a power boost. Apple is expected to offer a sleeker new design and more color options than before in the 2.9-pound design.

Another rumor through Wccftech this week said the MacBook Air 2022 will offer a 13.6-inch mini LED display, but we’ve heard conflicting information about that panel appearing on the Air. Currently, this panel is exclusive to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Other specs may include up to 16 GB of memory, up to 2 TB of storage, and up to 20 hours of battery life. For now, though, we don’t expect HDMI and SD card slots on the new MacBook Air.

The Mac mini 2022 has been leaked several times in recent months, including the Apple Studio Display firmware. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the new Mac mini won’t arrive until 2023.

Leaker Jon Prosser previously revealed that the new Mac mini could be smaller and have more ports at the same time. The 2022 Mac mini may feature a magnetic charging connector, four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A ports, Ethernet, and HDMI. On the other hand, Kuo said the new Mac mini won’t have any design updates.

Mac at WWDC 2022: Outlook

If I had to bet on a Mac launch at WWDC, it would be the MacBook Air, as it will give Apple an affordable new MacBook ahead of the crucial back-to-school shopping season. But we’ve also heard that the new Air may be delayed due to strong MacBook Pro sales.

Either way, it’s time for a new MacBook Air design so Apple can better compete with the best laptops on the market.

If I were to bet on one Mac launching at WWDC, it would be the MacBook Air, as it would give Apple a new affordable MacBook heading into the critical back-to-school buying season. But we’ve also heard that the new Air could be held back because MacBook Pro sales are so strong.
