How to Draw a Star – Step by Step Drawing Tutorial for the Easiest 5 Pointed Star

This has to be the easiest and safest way to draw stars. Well, not just one way, but two very simple ways. Follow the step-by-step tutorial and start creating your star map today.

I decided to give you 2 different forms of star drawing guides, the classic “one-stroke” star and my simplified version of this method (great for kids, always yields perfect stars). Both tutorials show you how to draw a 5-pointed star.

The star is one of the basic shapes that comes in handy when learning to draw, as it can be used to enhance many of your drawings. The unicorn design is a perfect example, it looks even more magical when it is surrounded by many twinkling wonder stars.

How To Draw A Star – 5 Pointed Stars

what do you need:

  • One of our printable star map tutorials (optional)
  • Pencil or marker (or both)
  • Paper
  • Optional: Eraser

Version 1: The easiest way to draw the perfect star

We’re excited to share this tutorial with you as it’s the easiest way to draw the perfect star! And it only takes 4 steps! You can pencil out and trace your final design with a marker, or leave all the lines as they are because the stars will look great no matter what.

Start by drawing a letter A, without a horizontal line.

Draw a horizontal line on the upper third of the letter “A”.

Step 3

It’s almost there, just two moves away. All you have to do is “connect the dots” and draw a line from one end of the horizontal line, like the bottom left corner of the “letter A”.

Do the same for the other side.

Congratulations, you just learned how to draw stars! Now you can trace it with a marker and erase the lines, or get creative and give your star a smiley face.

Version 2: Draw the stars in one step

With this method, you don’t have to lift the pen off the paper to draw the stars. Once you get the hang of it, this is the fastest way to draw stars.

You can draw with a pencil and trace the outer lines with a marker when you are done to get the perfect star with no inner lines.

Start by drawing a horizontal line from left to right.

Continue to draw a line at an angle.

Continue a line at the corner.

Step 3

The next line should go diagonally to the top of the star design.

You are almost there! Now draw a line from top to bottom, still at an angle.

All that’s left is to connect the last line with the first, and you’ve drawn a star.

If you’re drawing with a pencil, use a marker to outline the drawing, then erase the pencil.

How to draw a star – 5 pointed star

What do you need:
one of our printable star drawing guides (optional)
pencil or marker (or both)
paper
optional: eraser
Version 1: the easiest way to draw a perfect star
We’re really excited to share this tutorial with you because it’s the easiest way to draw a perfect star! And it’s only 4 steps! You can draw it with a pencil and trace your final design with a marker, or just leave it as it is, with all the lines – since those kind of stars look pretty cool anyway.
Step 1
Start by drawing a letter A, without the horizontal line.

2nd step
Draw a horizontal line, across the top third of the letter “A.”

Step 3
Almost there, just two strokes away. All that is left to do is to ‘connect the dots’, draw a line from one end of the horizontal line, say left to the lower right end of the ‘letter A’.

Step 4
Do the same with the other side.

Congratulations, you have just learned how to draw a star! Now you can trace it with a marker and erase the lines or get creative and give your star a smiley face.
Version 2: draw stars in one stroke
You don’t need to lift your pen from the paper to draw a star with this method. Once you get the hang of it, this is the fastest way to draw stars.
You can draw with a pencil and when you’re done, trace the outer lines with a marker to get the perfect star without the lines inside.
Step 1
Start by drawing a horizontal line from left to right.

2nd step
Continue by drawing an angled line.

Step 3
The next line should go at an angle and up to the top of the star design.

Step 4
You are almost there! Now draw a line from top to bottom, still at an angle.

Step 5
It remains only to connect the last line to the first and you have drawn a star.

Step 6
If you are drawing in pencil, outline the drawing with a marker and erase the pencil.
