Ghostbusters VR is a 4-player paranormal pursuit coming to Meta Quest 2

Ghostbusters VR pits you and up to three friends against highly chaotic ghosts in Meta Quest 2.

The game, which was announced at the Meta (formerly Oculus) VR showcase on Wednesday, features some crazy-looking gameplay that includes several ghost hunters and a very cunning ghoul. The four-legged red ghost, with its two eyes, slid around in an arena shrouded in the energy of dying stars, dodging its pursuers, making it difficult for this article to take a clear screenshot.

Interestingly, Ghostbusters VR has only been confirmed for Meta Quest 2, even though Sony Pictures owns the franchise. Sony already has its own PSVR, and PSVR 2 is coming, but the promotional material for Ghostbusters VR only mentions Facebook’s Meta Quest 2. That said, it’s still possible that PSVR or PSVR 2 will be announced at a later date.

“Put on your Proton Pack and Meta Quest 2 and enter the world of Ghostbusters in immersive virtual reality,” reads the official synopsis. “Start your Ghostbusters headquarters in the new city of San Francisco and unravel a deep mystery in a new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe.”

Developer nDreams confirmed that Ghostbusters VR will be playable in both single-player and co-op, but the trailer is definitely focused on the multiplayer experience. It makes sense that nDreams is capitalizing on the recent multiplayer horror revival led by popular indie games like Phasmophobia, Devour, and GTFO.

Ghostbusters VR doesn’t appear to be bringing back any familiar characters from the series, instead featuring its own original Ghostbusters cast, similar to Illfonic’s upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
