You also don’t have to use an egg carton, we use the term very loosely because there are several cartoons that do the same job: some coasters, chocolate egg cartoons…

  • paint job
  • glue
  • A pair of scissors

Step-by-step instructions

If you’re using an egg carton, cut out the “cups” – each cavity makes one cup. If you’re using other cartoons, like a cup holder, cut it the same way.

Cut out the sides of each piece, this is the first step in shaping the egg carton flower.

Also cut the leaves, stem, and a short, straight strip from the flat top of the egg carton.

Form the sides, wrap around them. You will need three cups, one with the smaller “petals” and two with the larger ones, so keep that in mind when shaping the petals.

If you’re making this with younger kids, ask them to use a cup or two for the flour, as it’s easier for them.

Roll the short, straight strips into a spiral.

Make the center of the flower.

Highlight your favorite flower color and paint all the petals. Don’t forget to paint the stems and leaves green too.

In this simple tutorial, you will learn how to make flowers from egg cartons, and how to make beautiful flowers. These are suitable for many age groups as they are quite simple to make and look really pretty, so they will appeal to older children (and kids at heart too).

How to make egg carton flowers

What do you need:
cardboard egg cartons or an alternative
Painting
glue
the scissors
brush
canvas or card stock
Step by step instructions
If you are working with an egg carton, cut the “cups” – each cavity makes a cup. If you are working with another cartoon, such as a cup holder, cut the same way.
Trim the sides of each piece, this being the first step in shaping your egg carton flowers.
Also cut off the leaves, stems and a short straight strip on the flat top of the egg carton.

Shape the sides, round them off. You will need three cups, one with smaller “petals” and two with larger ones for this project, so keep that in mind when shaping your petals.
If you’re crafting with young children, just let them use a cup or two for a flower, as it will make it easier for them.

Roll the short straight strip into a spiral.

Bring out your favorite floral colors and paint all the petals. Don’t forget to also paint the stem and leaves green.

Glue the twirled circle to the center of the smaller, shorter flower piece

Glue two egg carton cups on top of each other.

Now glue the small piece in the center of the two you previously glued together.

You can leave the coiled spiral as it is or you can also color it. Paint it in the color of the flower or in different colors.

Glue the flowers to canvas (painted or white) or construction paper.
