Destiny 2 Season 17 Begins Today, Solar 3.0 Confirmed

Bungie has announced new details on Destiny 2 Season 17, confirming its official title and a solar 3.0 rework ahead of its release today, May 24. With Destiny‘s Season of the Risen now wrapped up, players are encouraged to claim all of their in-game rewards and prepare for the reset, but aside from this, the developer has remained tight-lipped on what fans can expect from the new content.

It has been about three months since Season of the Risen debuted in Destiny 2, and with it came many more challenges for Guardians to take on. These new challenges included opportunities for more difficult heroic campaigns, which offered even better player rewards. With the ever-popular Witch Queen expansion, Season of the Risen is regarded as one of the better seasons the game has seen so far, and it is unsurprising that players were concerned over the lack of information on Season 17. Though 60 new Destiny weapons were released in Season 16, fans still hope for more upgrades and better weapons to defeat the next major boss.

The official Bungie website, along with a new Destiny 2 trailer, have finally outlined some of what players can expect from Destiny 2 Season 17, just hours before the content goes live. Players will be unable to play Destiny 2 during Season 17’s scheduled maintenance, which will take place today, May 24 from 9 AM PDT (16:00 UTC) to 11 AM PDT (18:00 UTC). While the maintenance is scheduled for two full hours, the servers are only scheduled to be down for a total of 15 minutes from 9:45 AM PDT to 10 AM PDT. The new season is officially titled Season of the Haunted, and fans can look forward to the highly-anticipated solar 3.0, the next rework for solar subclasses, which follows the void 3.0 subclass rework from The Witch Queen expansion. The Leviathan from the Destiny Content Vault will also make a return, marking the first Destiny 2 content to leave the vault.

In past notes from Bungie, the company teased sandbox changes, reputation changes, and gameplay changes will be happening in Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted, offering a lot of new content for players to enjoy. One major thing Bungie did previously confirm was coming to the new season was the exciting announcement of more loot space in Destiny 2, which has been something fans have been asking for since the first game. Destiny 2 has a loot problem, with players encourage to collect as much loot as possible, while only having limited storage space available. Destiny 2‘s increase to 600 loot slots should ease some of fans’ frustrations.

There are still more details on Destiny 2 Season of the Haunted yet to emerge, but Bungie has seemingly been listening to players in deciding what to introduce with Season 17. With new challenges, the solar 3.0 rework, the return of the Leviathan and more, it seems likely there’ll be lots of Destiny 2 players jumping into Season 17 when it launches later today.
